Devenir Cheval: A Canadian Pony Story

I invited Cyb to tell us about his journey as a horse and the critters that have carried his spirit. From Montréal to you. Bonjour.

THE CRITTER CREW

PW: Welcome to Pup-World, my friend. Please tell us your name and where you are from.

CYB: I'm mostly known as Cyb in the community, but my actual pony name's Bourrasque Gallup. I'm a Canadian horse stabled in Montréal, Canada's Southshore suburbs. I bear other names such as Pup Cyb when practicing puppy-play, and Pinotte, the happy-go-living German Shepherd when hanging out with the furries. I am part of Le Renard’s house and belong to Master MéchantRenard. As for my human identity, I would rather keep my name private. However, I can disclose that I am a 31-year-old male and have been happily living with my partner since 2015.

The idea of being all dressed up like that and forced to be used as an animal, being deprived of my human identity, really enticed me to no end. At the time, my role model was Pony NightySwifthoof. A wonderful and friendly German equine from which I still draw inspiration and guidance.

So, I began to build my pony persona based on my personality and distinctive traits. I chose to be a Clydesdale, since it’s a beautiful horse used to plow the fields, working hard and restlessly. Just like me, who works long days as a field structural engineer. I thought it was a perfect fit.

As for the name, I came across a song by an Acadian folk band that really left a mark on me as a child. They're called Bourrasques, a French term meaning strong drafts of wind, which, I thought, was a perfect name for a tempestuous stallion. I feel that this definition greatly reflects my personality. So, Bourrasques became my official pony’s name!

PW: How long have you been embodying that persona?

CYB: Bourrasques’s first steps as a pony were in 2018.

PW: Can you describe your first experience as a pony?

CYB: I had numerous chats with Master related to trying ponyplay eventually. One day, during a meetup at the local dungeon, Master blindfolded me and simply said, "Open your mouth." I felt a thick piece of rope inserted between my teeth, forcing it open. I realized it was a makeshift horse bit. While tugging the ropes, he made me trot around the dungeon, experiencing the play for the very first time.

PW: How do you physically manifest your pony persona? What do you wear, and how does it affect your headspace?

CYB: I enjoy being completely covered in gear from head to toe. It completely immerses me into submission ‘mode’. My typical appearance is as follows:

PW: What inspired you to adopt a pony persona?

CYB: Pony-play has been my first fetish-related interest. It began in the 2010s. I came across pictures of a team of kinky, rubbery horses all chained up together, pulling a fancy carriage.

PW: Can you describe a typical day in the life of your horse character?

CYB: As a ponyboy, I try to act as much as possible as a horse. No human thoughts, only living in the moment as an animal. We never actually tried to make a complete day session as a handler/pony; that’d be incredibly exhausting. But, usually, we have a routine that we both enjoy doing. It goes as follows:

  1. I strip naked in front of Master.

  2. He lubes me up from shoulder to foot.

  3. Helps me put on the neck entry latex catsuit.

  4. Once done, I must remain still while Master assembles the tack on my body. Tightening the straps and making sure that everything remains solidly attached.

  5. After that, we put on the hoof boots, hoof gloves, and then the nylon wraps.

  6. Finally, I must kneel in front of him while he slides the pony hood on my head and tightens the laces. He then put on the leather collar around my neck. At this point, I become my pony self.

  7. At that moment, I must stand on my rear hooves as he attaches the reins to the mask.

  8. We then proceed to rigorous trotting and running training. I must then adopt the correct posture and precise movements of a horse. That could be compared to a military drill.

After an exhausting but satisfying session, I get to rest a little. Sometimes, a nice grooming session follows. I get tied to an anchor and then, Master brushes my latex coat with a soft brush. This, by the way, feels incredible since the latex becomes like second skin. The sensations are exponentially increased. It a very sensual moment.

PW: What challenges have you faced in developing and maintaining your pony persona?

CYB: I’d say the major obstacle was and still is my incredibly busy schedule. My work is very demanding. On average, a week varies from 50 to 70 hours at work. In addition, I’m always away from home because I work at remote construction sites. Because of this, I have very limited time to practice with my handler. I also have to balance between work and family. But, in the end, we always find ways to get together and spend quality time.

PW: Do you interact with other members of the equine community?

CYB: Of course! As I said, I chat with ponies in Germany. But I must say that the local pony-play community is growing exponentially, and it’s always fun to mingle and chat with my fellow young ponies.

PW: What misconceptions about pony/horse roleplay would you like to address?

CYB: Pony-play is sometimes referred to as a rich person’s kink because of the cost of the gear. While it’s true that it requires an investment, there are lots of newly established creators that offer much more affordable and beautiful pieces of work! People shouldn’t be worried to try and experience the play. Although appearance is a good part of a pony's identity, it still doesn’t constitute the fundamentals. A lot of ponies enjoy practicing with only a hood or even nothing at all.

PW: How has embodying a horse impacted your personal growth? Your mental health?

CYB: Becoming a pony allowed me to dissociate from my human self. It could be compared to a combination of intense training at a gym and a yoga session. Before that, work was the most important part of my identity. But, as I allowed myself to become the horse, it made me reconsider my life balance and choices. Since then, I must say that I am a different man/pony.

PW: What do you find most rewarding about being a pony?

CYB: I’d say my confidence in myself mostly. When you’re wearing the hood, you become someone else. Nobody knows who’s under. You can then allow yourself to do things differently Being silly and playful. Before that, I was a very introverted person. But since then, I learned to leave my sense of pride aside and enjoy interacting with others! Also, to be perfectly honest, I really enjoy looking the best I can. Being a pretty pony and acting as such makes me incredibly proud.

PW: Is your pony persona a big part of your sexual identity? How do you play?

CYB: I wouldn’t say that it’s a major part of my sexual identity since I mostly play as a performing pony in front of an audience. But I must admit that we experimented while I was entirely geared up. And I definitely wouldn’t mind exploring more of that…

PW: What advice would you give to someone considering adopting a horse persona?

CYB: Don’t hesitate to try the play! It can be intimidating at first but once you get into it, there’s no backing up! As for the persona, beginner ponies shouldn’t focus on finding it immediately. They should try and experiment first before investing in gear. But, as you explore the kink, the name, and ponysona should naturally come to your mind!

PW: How does your pup persona complement your horse persona?

CYB: My pup and ponysonas are quite different. As a pup, I enjoy being playful and mischievous! As for my pony self, I tend to be obedient and submissive to my Handler. They are opposite personalities, but they complete my need to explore my kink self.

PW: Do you find that your horse and pup selves influence each other?

CYB: Not really. In fact, I tend to identify more and more as a pony. My pup self is becoming secondary.

PW: How do you transition between your horse and pup personas?

CYB: It depends on how I feel. For more convivial meets with fellow kinksters, I tend to gear up as a pup because it’s a lot lighter on me and lasts longer for various activities. Although, if need be, I always carry my pony gear everywhere I go so I’m always ready for a play session or a photoshoot.

CYB: Well, I have three personas if we include my fluffy German shepherd. It’s all a matter of correctly measuring how I feel at the event. If I feel energetic and ready for a challenge, I’d choose the pony. I also have to be in the right state of mind to do so, or else the experience wouldn’t be enjoyable at all. On the other hand, being a puppy is a lot less binding, and easier to act as such when my energy levels are lower.

PW: Is there a support system in place to help you manage your roleplay?

CYB: I can always count on my Master to guide and help me when we’re playing together. Also, our fellow kingsters are always ready to lend a hand when needed.

PW: How do your friends and family react to your pony and pup personas?

CYB: To be perfectly honest, I never shared this side of me with my family. Never felt the need to and probably never will. I think it’s important to keep some kind of secret garden so things don’t interfere too much. As for our friends, we have lots amongst the kink community that share our interests.

PW: How do you maintain and switch between two headspaces?

CYB: I’d compare that to a state of meditation. The most important thing is to clear your mind first. Then, try as much as possible to reason and act like a pup or pony. No human logic is involved. Only reactiveness. Leave your pride and social standards aside and get on all fours! And, when I feel like switching between characters, it’s all a matter of repeating the same steps.

PW: Are there any activities or groups that lend themselves better to one persona than the other?

CYB: It all depends on the theme of the event. Usually, I would rather be my pup sona when being placed into BDSM scenes. My body is accessible for Master and I’m less scared of damaging the gear when playing rough. As for the pony, the scenes are focused on submission and protocol. I also prefer being a pony for a various photo sessions. Balancing the Pony and the Pup, I’d say that I’m about 80% pony and 20% pup. As I said, I really prefer presenting myself as a human horse rather than a pup.

PW: How do you balance the physical and emotional demands of maintaining two distinct personas?
